Boot Camp: A Guide to Chic Winter Footwear

27 April 2016, by Forrest Chase

Summer has finished. What, I hear all the bronzed beach-loving people say, It can’t be!

Whether you love warm weather or prefer the thermostat under 30 degrees, the seasons have changed once again and the months of knits, scarves and hot chocolates are inevitably upon us. But while you pack away your bikini and bring out your woollen coat, don’t forget to start thinking about your feet (who are often so unfairly forgotten about). Bring your fashion A-game this winter with the help of these stylish, comfortable and oh-so-functional boots from NOVO shoes.

Recipe: Chunky Choc Chip Anzac biscuits

18 April 2016, by Forrest Chase

This variation of the famous biscuits utilizes the left-overs of your Easter stash – making the sweet treats a cross between a coconut rough and an Anzac biscuit.

Wrap them up to take on your favourite Anzac Day long-weekend activity.

Makes 8 large biscuits

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 ¼ cup rolled oats (do not use porridge oats or quick oats)
  • 1/2 cup dessicated coconut
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • 125g unsalted butter
  • 1 ½ tablespoon golden syrup
  • 1 teaspoon boiling water
  • chocolate chips or broken up Easter eggs

Method:

  1. Preheat oven to 180 C. Lay a piece of baking paper on your baking tray.
  2. Place all the dry ingredients (excluding chocolate chips) into a bowl and stir to combine.
  3. Place the butter, golden syrup and water into a saucepan and place over medium heat. Stir gently until butter has melted.
  4. Pour the melted butter mix into the dry ingredients and stir to combine. Add the choc chips and stir until just combined.
  5. Anzac day cooking

  6. Anzac biscuit mixture is typically very crumbly and this recipe is no exception, especially with the addition of the choc chips.
  7. Roll and squeeze the mixture into 5cm diameter balls and place them on the baking paper with plenty of space between them.
  8. Bake for 10 minutes then remove the tray. Gently and slowly press the balls down with a metal spatula. Bake a further 5 minutes.
  9. Allow them to cool for about 10 minutes before taking them off the tray, otherwise they will fall apart. Once cooled they are firm and chunky and even a bit chewy!
